The Last Shot (Cry Sister Cry Single)

Here's another catchy, fairly unknown single. Both tunes were written by William Sandwick. I couldn't find anything else, so unless any of you can fill in the blanks, I guess this mystery will remain. I found a live version of Cry Sister Cry, you can Check Out.

Zox (Strange Love Single)

Here's a catchy, mostly unknown two sider for ya. There's virtually no information on the Net regarding this band. Most of the copies I've seen have an Englishtown, NJ address written on the label. The credits list : Holland, Danger, Gunn; produced by Mike Holland. Seems fairly likely this was a DIY effort from Jersey but I'm just guessing, anybody?

Acme Attractions (Anyway Single)

Acme Attractions were a four piece from Lewsey Farm, Luton,  UK. Unfortunately, I couldn't find much else about them. I read 500 copies of this single exist? They released a second single under, Bonnie Parker & Acme Attractions, on Orchid Records, in 1981. They may have changed their name to The English Dream.

The Mix were a three piece from Nanaimo, B.C.; that were around from the mid to late 80's. I can't find any other releases for the band but A Few You Tube Videos show the mix playing more polished material, live and in the studio, so they may have released something else. Sadly, one of the videos mention that Gerrit Swart, may have passed away.

Menlo Park (Wrong Side Of A Gun Single)

Menlo Park were an Ashland, Kentucky four piece that formed in 1979. I believe this was their only single; it was self released with a small pressing of 100-200 copies. Five more songs were released in 1981, on a 3 band comp titled, " The Recording Workshop". In 2013, Menlo Park reunited for a couple tunes, you can find it HERE. The Cheap Rewards Blog did a nice write up on these guys a few years back. If you want to read more about the band, check it out. Here's the bands Facebook page as well.

Lucky Pierre were a Cleveland, Ohio four piece. The band was founded in 1974 by Kevin McMahon, it's only constant member. Trent Reznor, ( founder of Nine Inch Nails) played keyboards from 1988 - 1989.

The Bit (Don't Wanna Be Rejected)

I found little info on this one but, (as per Discogs) The Bit appear to have been a four piece from Whittier California. Other than this single, they released a second one titled, "band of your dreams" on Allied Artists Records in 1982. I couldn't find who played what instrument's but the line up included: Tommy Arriola, Louis Cardenas, David Flores, and Danny Ramos.

Kevin McCabe (Motor Car Ep)

Kevin McCabe is a New Jersey singer/songwriter and producer. He composed for and played multiple instruments in a 70's rock outfit called Airborne. This Ep appears to be a solo release, as I see no additional credits on the record. I found another full length solo release called "Fearless", from 2007. If interested, you can purchase it here.

a repost by request, originally posted 2-25-09, new rips and scans.
The Cybermen were a three-piece from Accrington, Lancashire. They formed early in 1977 from the ashes of a R& B/Pub Rock band named EsaxLucius. The Cybermen’s line-up featured IanP. Dixon (b/v) and Roger Entwistle (gtr/v)plus an unknown drummer who left for Norway in the first weeks of 1978 to be replaced by Paul Milek (aka Kid Slick), formerly of Schoolgirl Bitch. Recorded at Cambridge’s Spaceward Studios on March 28, 1978, and released on their own label, Rockaway Records, in mid-June in an edition of 1,000 copies (with a further batch of 500 copies following a few months later).

I think I've probably owned every Jags record, at one time or another; this one being my favorite of the bunch. Most of their records are pretty easy to find and inexpensive, so if you like this, you shouldn't have much trouble finding it.
The Jags were a Yorkshire based four piece that formed in 1978. In July of that year, they signed to Island Records and before disbanding sometime around 1982; they released an Ep, a couple Lp's and a maybe a half a dozen singles.

The Speedies (Let Me Take Your Foto and Something On My Mind Singles)

A re-post, by request, originally posted separately on 6-17-09 and 5-10-10. New rips and scans enjoy!
The Speedies were one of the more popular bands of the late 1970's NYC, Max's Kansas City/ C.B.G.B's Club Scene, despite the fact that 3 of the 5 members were still in High School at the time. At the height of their popularity, Allen, the drummer, was 15, Greg and Eric, the 2 guitar players were 16, John Marino was 20 and John Carlucci, 21. They broke the House attendance records at Max's Kansas City by selling out 4 shows in one weekend. The Speedies opened for many of the biggest Punk/Power Pop bands of the era, including The Jam, The Undertones, The Gang of Four, Ultravox, The Members, The David Johanson Group,The Plimsouls, The Rezillos, and the Tourists. They released 2 super catchy singles, the first, "Let Me Take your Foto" b/w "No Substitute", was produced by the late Joel Webber, (the founder of the New Music Seminar) and recorded at Skyline studios in NYC. The second,"Something on My Mind" b/w "Time", was produce by Clem Burke of Blondie, and recorded at Jimi Hendrix' Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village. Here's The Speedies Myspace page.

Division 4 (On The Beat Ep)

Wow, time goes by so fast. I can't believe it's been three months since my last new post. If your a regular of this blog; I guess your pretty used to me apologizing for long absences by now. This isn't the way I want to run things but it's all I have to offer right now. I guess a faint pulse, is better than no pulse at all. Anyway, lets get back to what really matters, The Music!
Division 4 were a four piece from Sydney, Australia; that were around from 1980 to 84. Brothers Brad and Kieren Fitzpatrick, formed the band out of the ashes of a short lived Punk outfit, The Bland. Feeling like the Punk scene was dying, they recruited Joe Genua and Anthony Howell to form the band. Anthony left and was replaced by Ian Schofield, who played on this, their only record, (as far as I know) which was independently released. If you would like to read more about Division 4, go check out their Facebook Page.

Process Of Elimination E.P.

a repost, by request, originally posted 11/18/09, new rips and scans, enjoy!
Here's the classic Mid West V/A Process Of Elimination E.P. Their were three pressings (that I know of) of this record. Mine being a third, with the yellow labels. The original Process of Elimination artwork was by Jeff Nelson (Minor Threat/Dischord Records), but got lost in the mail. Early ads for the Process EP featured a completely different mock-up of the cover, presumably based on Jeff's art. My favorite on here is the great early version of Toxic Reason's Riot Squad, with the fix running a close second. The Necros track is cool too. Honestly except for maybe the Mcdonalds track (which I think is a joke) There all good. I didn't have the room to include all of the band bios but, I put links for most of their Myspaces.

Benwah Torpedos (Fingerprints Single)

a repost, by request, originally posted 9/15/10, new rips and scans, enjoy!
After searching the web for a while, I basically came up empty on this one. I can tell you, the band was from Philadelphia, and the single is from 1981, that's it. Both tracks are great, Pop/Punk, that's well produced. I found the b side a few places on the web,(I think it was comped, on one of the Hyped To Deaths) but I prefer Fingerprints, I really like the intro. Anyway, as usual, any info you may have is always appreciated.

The Rudies (Sherri Goodbye Single)

a repost, by request, originally posted 2/05/11, new rips and scans, enjoy!
The Rudies were a late 70's outfit from NYC, who named themselves after a reference on a Vivian Stanshall (Bonzo Dog Band) album. The original lineup was: Ed Ryan, (Guitar, Vocals) Razz, (Drums) and Mark Charles Lamendola, (Bass, Vocals). In 1978, they added John Maguire on, (Guitar, Vocals) and became a four piece. I think this was their only record, but I'm not sure. Go check out their MYSPACE PAGE.

The Works (You're Just A) Button On A Shirt Single

Here's a nice slab of Guitar driven, hooky Powerpop, from 1979 for ya, (well, the a side anyway). I want to give a big thanks to Bruce from the always amazing, My Life's A Jigsaw Blog; for information on these guys. Bruce's knowledge and collection, never cease to amaze me. Describing themselves as "Sydney's full-on raging, foot-tapping, Rock 'n' Roll outfit"; The Works were a Australian four piece around in the late 70's that eventually became, Brave New Works. Far as I know, this was their only release as The Works.

The Night Brigade were a three piece, that appear to have been from NYC. I'm making that  assumption because this was recorded at Blank Tapes Studio. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any other real info on the band. Both tunes are top notch Powerpop; making this a classic and a must own.

The Doctors (Be My Lawyer SIngle)

Here's a cool Canadian two sider, that I basically couldn't find any info on. The Doctors may have been from Ontario but I'm guessing from the record label. Be my Lawyer is a solid Powerpop tune, while the flip, Hey You has a upbeat Punky, New Wave feel. Hey You is my pick of the two but both tunes are solid. I'm guessing the scarcity of info means this record is fairly rare so if anyone has any info on the band to share; I would appreciate it, Enjoy!

The Vectors (The Vectors EP)

a repost, by request, originally posted 05/06/10, new rips and scans, enjoy!
The Vectors were from Fullerton, California. They first made their mark in 1979 by landing a spot with a novelty song called "Death To Disco" on the " Insane Darrell Wayne No Disco Album". After gaining airplay on KROQ, KNAC and several college radio stations, a permanent line-up was put together and they began gigging around Orange County, and Los Angeles. Although The Vectors earned a large following, major label success eluded them. I think sometime around 1981 they called it a day. I'm pretty sure their only releases were the Death To Disco Single, and this EP. Other than the comp track listed above, Hey Kirby also appeared on the "The Up Another Octave Transmission" comp. They have a Myspace , other than that there's not much on them.

The Braille Party was a Maryland three piece that left us with this lp and a couple of compilation tracks. Musically this record is all over the place. It ranges from dreamy pop, to blazing fast hardcore. Overall it's somewhat strange but, there are some really memorable songs that grow on you with every listen. My favorite has always been, Who's Patronizing Who. The great lyrics, swirling almost TSOL like guitars, and short bursts of speed, made(for me anyway) this an instant DC classic. I spent quite a while trying to separate these tracks. If it's not perfect I apologize.

The City Limits (Morse-Code Messages E.p)

I was introduced to this record a few years back by Bruce, who posted it on his excellent "My Life's A Jigsaw Blog. It became an instant favorite, from the moment I heard it and I've been trying to get a copy ever since. Unfortunately, it rarely shows up and when it has; my bankroll never seemed to coincide with it's appearance. Recently, the moon and the stars lined up and I was able to finally obtain a copy. To celebrate my acquisition, I've decided to post it here for you. If you've never heard this record, your in for a treat, Enjoy!
The City Limits were a five piece from Leeds, England; that were around in the late 70's. Unfortunately, this was their sole release. If you would like to read more about the band, check out Bruce's great post's HERE. I've been told, this may soon to be reissued on the Sing Sing Label and Queen Mum Records, so keep a look out!!
